Connecting Zendesk takes about five minutes and requires creating a small OAuth client inside Zendesk itself.

Before you start

You need Administrator access in Zendesk, and to know your Zendesk subdomain — the yourcompany part of yourcompany.zendesk.com.

1. Create an OAuth client in Zendesk

  1. Go to your Zendesk Admin Center.
  2. Navigate to Apps and integrations.
  3. Select Zendesk API.
  4. Click OAuth Clients, then Add OAuth Client.
  5. Fill in the client name and company details.
  6. Set the Unique Identifier and Redirect URL to the values shown on Synthight's setup screen (step 2 below shows you where to find them).
  7. Set Client Type to Confidential.
  8. Save, then copy the Client Secret — you'll paste it into Synthight next.

2. Connect in Synthight

  1. Sidebar → Workspace → Connections → click the Zendesk card.
  2. Enter your Zendesk Subdomain and the Client Secret you just copied.
  3. Choose your Initial Sync Range: Start from now, Last week, Last month, or Last 3 months. This only affects the first sync — new and updated tickets sync automatically afterward.
  4. Click Connect to Zendesk. A new window opens to complete authorization — finish it there and return to Synthight.
  5. Pick which Groups to sync from (or choose All Groups), then click Complete Setup.

Your card now shows Connected, and status updates live as the sync progresses.

Changing what's synced later

Reopen the Zendesk card and use Edit Groups to change your group selection at any time — save with Save Changes.

Disconnecting

Reopen the card and choose Disconnect. This stops syncing new tickets but preserves the findings and topics already generated from your existing data.

Frequently asked questions

What Zendesk permissions do I need to connect it?
You need Administrator access in Zendesk to create the OAuth client, plus your Zendesk subdomain — the part before .zendesk.com.
Why did my Zendesk setup fail right after I entered my credentials?
The two most common causes are entering the subdomain with the .zendesk.com suffix included, or copying the client secret incompletely. Double-check both against what Zendesk shows you.
My connection is stuck on "Connecting…" — what happened?
The OAuth authorization window was likely closed before it finished. Reopen the Zendesk card and go through the connection flow again.
Can I change which Zendesk groups sync after I've already connected?
Yes. Reopen the Zendesk card and use Edit Groups to update your selection, then save with Save Changes.
What happens to my existing findings if I disconnect Zendesk?
Disconnecting only stops new tickets from syncing — the findings and topics already generated from your existing data stay in Synthight.
